FLEECE CONTEST RULES

1.      All fleeces entered must have been grown on sheep owned by the exhibitor and represent no more than 15 months growth.

2.      Each fleece entered must be in only one class.

3.      Each fleece should be free of excessive vegetable matter (not washed), untied but skirted, rolled and placed in a clear plastic bag.

4.      Fleece must be picked up by the exhibitor at the end of the show.  Fleeces not picked up will become property of the Kentucky Sheep and Fiber Festival.  Fleeces may be offered and marked for sale at registration.  Transaction will be between the buyer and seller.

5.      The judge can reclassify or disqualify fleeces.  Judging will take place on Saturday.   If you are not sure which class your fleece belongs in, someone at registration can advise you.

6.      Judging of  fleeces: 

Ø      Quality must be typical of the wool grade represented

Ø      Evenness of crimp, staple length, and staple width over various parts of fleece

Ø      Strength of staple

Ø      Estimated clean weight

Ø      Condition

Ø      Character, including the handle, crimp and the color

White Wool – same as natural colored
