Class Description: Learn how to get those yarns on your loom, weave fabulous cloth, and finish your project all in a day! No experience required

Advanced Techniques Weaving Saturday 10a-12p-Lunch-1p-5p

Class Description: Have you mastered the basics of rigid heddle weaving and are interested in stretching your wings a bit? Does using two heddle confound you? Want to perfect the use of pick up stick patterning? This class will show you how. Previous weaving experience required.

Simply Weaving Laces  (Intermediate needs to know how to warp loom)  Friday 9a-1p

Class Description: Ready to move beyond scarfs on your rigid heddle loom?
Weave a sampler to learn how to hand manipulate warps and wefts to create
beautiful laces. Learn to weave Danish Medallions, Leno, Mexican Lace, and Brooks Bouquet. If time, you will also weave some of the Pile Techniques

Sheep Ornaments  (Beginner)  Friday 9a-1p
Instructor: Martha Richard
Class Description: Woven Sheep. Weave a cute sheep for your studio or Christmas tree. Student will warp loom, weave several sheep, assemble the sheep while at class. Project suitable for both new weavers and experienced ones. Each woven sheep will have his own personality.
Materials you need to bring to class: Loom with 12 dent reed (rigid loom, okay)
shuttle, scissors, roving.

Punchneedle Embroidery  (Beginner)   Saturday 10a-2p
Punchneedle Embroidery ClassInstructor: Nancee Ariagno
Class Description: “Hooter’s” Owl Pin
Each student will receive the pattern printed on weaver’s cloth, instruction sheet, Valdani thread kit, pin clasp, stuffing, and wool for backing and wings. A size #3 punchneedle and a no slip hoop will also be provided. Most students will be able to finish punching and assembly of pin.
Materials you need to bring to class: Small Embroidery scissors, crewel needle or a large
eyed sewing needle.

Wreath from Wool Roving  (Beginner)   Friday 10a-2p

Class Description: This is about making a beautiful 16 inch wool roving wreath with needle felted flowers and leaves for accent. The wreath has several shades of red, gold, white and green. The flowers require some needle felting skills.

Fundamentals of Dyeing  (Beginner)  Sunday 1p-5p

Class Description: Foundations of Dyeing is a class intent on exposing students to the basics of protein fiber dyeing. Utilizing dyes with no heavy metals that are light-fast and eco-friendly, Students will learn the techniques of hand-painting and kettle dyeing.
Materials you need to bring to class: Safety glasses, Waterproof rubber gloves.

Fleece Prep. 101  (All skill levels)   Sunday 9a-12p

Class Description: In this interactive lecture, learn how to take raw fleece and make it spinable. We will talk about the different types of wool, what to look for in a good fleece, how to avoid the felting, how to know when the fleece is clean (but, not too clean), drying, and we’ll talk a little about different types of fiber processing. You’ll get to take home a full color booklet to help with your endeavors at home.

Pattern Theory  (Intermediate)  Saturday 9a-12p

Class Description: This lecture will help you understand the hidden workings of fabric structures in relation to weaving patterns. Hone your skills in reading the modern standardized weaving pattern and utilize them by unlocking the secrets that lay within. We’ll start a simple and work our way up into limitless possibilities, including making your own patterns. Even if you have a 2, 4, or 8+ harness loom you’ll take away valuable new information, as well as a full color booklet and specially designed chart paper to help you in your own discoveries.
Materials you need to bring to class: Pen, notebook and ready to think.

Mosaic Knitting  (Beginner to Advanced)   Friday 1p-5p

Class Description: Students will learn mosaic knitting techniques developed by Barbara Walker. It is a two-color knitting using one color at a time.( Students need to know how to knit and cast on)
Materials you need to bring to class: To make a sample—2 highly contrasting colors and needles appropriate  to the yarn. To make a washcloth—2 highly contrasting cottons and needles appropriate to the yarn.

Sock Knitting Skills ( All Skill Levels)  Sunday 10a-2p

Required Skills: This class is aimed at the first-time sock knitter or those who want to expand their knitting skills that would apply to socks. Students should be competent with knitting, purling, casting-on, increasing, and decreasing. Familiarity with knitting in the round would be helpful.
Class Description: This class will cover all sock knitting techniques needed to complete a classic sock constructed from the cuff down. We will use double-pointed needles to knit in the round. Through the creation of a sample mini sock, we will explore appropriate cast on methods, use the heel-stitch for a cushioned heel flap, learn to shape the heel with short rows, use symmetrical decreases for the toe, and finish with the kitchener stitch. A sock pattern for an adult sized sock will be included in the class handouts and students may choose to start the adult sock in class once the sample is completed. Other topics of discussion can include alternate methods of knitting in the round, such as magic-loop or using two circular needles; toe-up construction; alternate heel and toe construction; types of yarn appropriate
for socks; choosing your own stitch patterns.
Materials you need to bring to class: Sock, fingering, or sport weight yarn to use for class samples. Appropriate size double-pointed needles to use with sample yarn. Basic knitting tools. Optional: Sock yarn and needles to begin full sized sock, if desired and time permits.

Beginning Spindling  (Beginner)   Friday 10a-12p
Instructor: Leslie Bebensee
Class Description: This will be a class beginning with wool-working in general, from washing on, then focusing on spindling in particular. Face and lose our fears. Even if you’ve tried before, I guarantee you will learn to spin in just this class. Do this before your try a wheel! You will understand better and get a solid foundation to work from. I’ll supply everything. Just show up with a smiling attitude!

‘Fun Felted Flowers’  ( All Skill Levels)   Friday 10a-2p
Punchneedle Embroidery ClassInstructor: Nicola Brown
Class Description: :  Felt flowers make wonderful jewelry, scarf closures, hair accessories and other colourful accents to brighten an outfit; alternatively they are perfect for adding a decorative element to any interior or exterior design scheme!  Using her favorite short fibered merino and a selection of silk, tencel, linen and Firestar fibers Nicola will share with participants how to create stylish flowers with or without stems.  Intermediate felters will learn the techniques necessary to add multiple stamens, felt ring backs or several layers of petals all at once; each flower will be created totally from wet felting, no need to sew a stitch!  For participants who like to stitch however, Nicola will have a selection of beads and brooch backs with which the flowers may be turned into beautiful sparkling pieces of jewlery.
This basic skills covered in this workshop are perfect for the total beginner but more experienced felters may enjoy experimenting with the short fibered merino and felting beautiful rings complete with multiple stamens and ring backs!
Materials you need to bring to class:  An old towel, a rectangle of bubble wrap or solar pool cover, a small basin or mug and some mild olive oil/goats milk soap or similar.

‘Introduction to Felting with Raw Wool in the Grease!’ (All Skill Levels)

Punchneedle Embroidery ClassInstructor: Nicola Brown
Class Description: Felting with raw wool in the grease is very rewarding especially if you produce your own fiber and leads to stunning felt that looks as if it has just leapt straight off the animals’ back!  During this workshop Nicola will share with participants how she likes to combine raw fleece with a light layer of easy to felt merino or other fiber to create beautiful shaggy rugs, wall pieces, blankets, large bags, purses and other three dimensional pieces.  Using this method, participants will have the choice of experimenting with samples or felting a small wall piece, simple change purse or similar depending on previous felting experience. 
Materials you need to bring to class: Their own raw fleece if possible (see materials fee), two medium/large pieces of bubble wrap or solar pool cover, a couple of old towels and some olive oil/goats milk soap or similar.  An old net curtain is also helpful!

Coming Unspun

Class Description: How to use unspun fibers such as roving, combed top & silk hankies for knit and crochet. Learn how to malnipulate the lovely unspun wool and silk fibers so that you can knit beautiful hats, mittens, accessories, sweaters and more! We will also touch base on what to look for when purchasing unspun fibers .
Materials you need to bring to class: Knitting needles and/or crochet hooks.

Class Description: Make a colorful mug rug to match your favorite coffee mug or give as a gift. Learn to braid, sewing and finishing skills before leaving the class. With sewing skills learned you will be able to use your own roving to make a chair pad, round rug or oval rug at home.

Fearless Dyeing on wool with mixed dyes

Punchneedle Embroidery ClassInstructor: Mary Nehring
Class Descritption: Have you ever wanted yarn in a particular color, wanted to “tweak” your existing yarn color, or wanted to rescue a favorite sweater because of a stain?  Come learn how easy it can be to hand paint your yarns and/or sweaters.  Mary will bring everything that you need to dye two skeins of yarn with fiber reactive dyes.  You will learn how to effortlessly steam in a vegetable steamer, microwave or large pot.  Directions will also be given on how to salvage a sweater.  The $20.00 kit fee will include all chemicals, two skeins of yarn (one a super wash sock yarn, the other a bulky weight merino), and use of all equipment.  This class is for all levels of experience.  Participants are advised to wear old clothes.

Spinning Wire Core Yarns

Punchneedle Embroidery ClassInstructor: Robin Wade
Class Description: Come learn to spin wire-core yarns! Great for projects where a structural component plays a strong role, such as jewelry, bowls, or other three-dimensional objects, wire-core yarns are an exciting addition to your spinning repertoire. In this class you will learn to spin fiber around a wire core, creating a yarn with the flexible stiffness of wire and a soft exterior. You will learn techniques to control the wire and prevent twisting and kinking and to provide enough twist to keep the fiber firmly in place. We will spin two yarns, one smooth and one textured, around two different sizes of wire, giving you a firm overview of the process and the confidence needed to experiment further on your own. For this class, you don't
need to be a great spinner, but you will need to be comfortable spinning on a wheel. Please bring 2 oz. of the fiber of your choice; wire and a small assortment of textured fiber, ric-rac, sequins, and other fun spin-ins will be provided.
