Class Instructor: Dawn Edwards- Felt So Right

  • 140 US dollars
  • 3051 Leestown Rd

Service Description

Come and enjoy a fun day of wet-felting as you create a felt bird pod which is sure to be a hit with your fine feathered friends. The bird pod will be made of naturally water repellant wool. Small birds such as Wrens, Nuthatches, and Chickadees will use them for shelter and/or nesting. This is a great introduction to 3D felting, employing the same techniques used in making hats, bags, slippers, etc. Watch as our flat felt pieces become three-dimensional. Skill Level for this Workshop: Suitable for all levels. Some standing involved. We will be rolling our felt which requires some physical exertion. Please wear comfortable shoes and clothes. Students will need to bring: • 3 old bath size towels • Bubble wrap: 2 ft. wide x 4 ft. length (If you have trouble finding 2’ wide bubble wrap, you may use duct tape to piece narrower widths together. Tape on the smooth side). • A plastic bucket to hold water • Sharp pointy scissors • A Ballbrause or laundry water sprinkler if you have one. I will have several to share if not. • A rubber spatula and wooden spoon for shaping your vessel. • Old pantyhose or an old t-shirt that can be snipped into strips to tie your felt bundles. • PVC pipe or pool noodle (If easier for traveling, this may be cut in half) for rolling your felt. • Optional: You may wish to purchase a set of plastic bed risers (which run about $10/set) to raise the height of your table to a more comfortable working height). Registration Fee and Materials Cost included. Materials Fee includes: •Dyed Merino wool top, template/pattern/resist, written instructions and use of instructor supplies. Materials provided: Wool batt for bird pod base, colorful Merino roving for surface decoration, embellishing fibers, written instructions, plastic resist/pattern material.
