Service Description

What is an art batt? How might you make one? What can you do with it - and why would you want to? Learn some of the answers to those questions - and more! Class participants will come away with the basic skills needed to create art batts, knowledge of what tools can be useful for that creative process (and a pet-comb hand card to keep), and three variously sized batts they've designed using ingredients from our one-of-a-kind Batt Buffet and created using hand cards, blending boards, and drum carders. Yes, we ARE batty for batts - and we think you will be as well! Materials fee includes:nn Use of instructor's hand cards and blending boards and fiber for use in learning to use those tools; use of instructor's Batt Buffet and drum carders to design and create an art batt to keep. If time permits, students may be able to make a second art batt. Instructor will provide all tools and materials. Skills: Students don't need any prior knowledge of fiber prep in general or carding in particular to take this workshop, which is geared towards the beginner. Students may enjoy themselves more if they spin, weave, or felt at some level, so that when they design and create their own art batt they're doing so with a use for that batt in mind - but if they just want to card for the sake of carding, that's fine, too! Class is open to anyone 12 years old and up. Students should have good use of their hands, be tall enough to reach the crank handle on a drum carder, and be able to both sit and stand over the course of a three-hour class.
